Taming the Stash Monster 2 - Patterns

Patterns.....

See it....

Want it....

Get it....

Now where to put it until you can stitch it?

There are many ways to store patterns: stacked on a shelf, sorted in a crate, in filing cabinets, hole punched in binders, sometimes they're sorted by designer, sometimes by subject, sometimes not sorted at all....

I store mine in binders... by designer then by title

Binder - most are 2"

I use page protectors (I got mine at Costco, cause it was the cheapest way); for those small ones that are a little awkward in the 8.5x11" sheets I borrowed Bonnie's idea of using 4x6 photo pages (these were a little hard to find for a regular binder but I found them at Staples)

Clips to help keep pattern in photo pages

To separate designers in multi-designer binders I am using Post-it 2" filing tabs
Tabs on the page protector on first pattern by designer

Alphabetical on shelf

Something to keep in mind if storing patterns this way is the number of designers that are out there.  It may seem fun to give every designer their own binder but that can lead to possibly hundreds of binders, requiring many shelves.  To address this - designers go in binders of 2", and once that binder gets too full it is broken out.  If the binder has become too full because of a favorite designer - that designer gets their own binder (like Teresa Wentzler and Ink Circles do)

That is how I organize my patterns....

Any questions?  Need another picture?

Let me know

No one can tell I'm a library technician by the way I did this right?

This is how I'm doing my patterns. I need to go through and make sure they are all in the proper order etc. I also need to label my binders... Since most of mine are 1", I should steal back my label maker from work lol

This is a great idea.. What a project. I would just have to focus on one binder at a time
