I have a unit on the top of my desk that looks like this one. I picked up some medical cabinet storage units that one would normally store toothbrushes and such in and fit them inside.
It seemed to work fairly well --- until I was using the pens. They slide around and pens fall out when things are added or removed. It is very annoying and I have decided that I need to look for another solution ..... I tried a regular pencil tray but it is too long so I am not a fan of that idea.
This could be challenging.
